In the mixing process of fertilizer production, horizontal mixer and vertical disc mixer have their own specialties. Choosing the right equipment can significantly improve the uniformity of material mixing and directly affect the nutrient stability of the finished fertilizer.
The horizontal mixer adopts a long cylindrical design, with the internal double spiral belt rotating in the opposite direction. The material is pushed axially and turned radially in the barrel to achieve all-round mixing. It has a large mixing space and can handle viscous materials with medium and high water content. It is especially suitable for mixing and fermenting chicken manure, straw and other fiber raw materials in organic fertilizer production lines. There will be no dead corners during the mixing process, the mixing uniformity is high, and the residual amount is small during unloading, which can reduce cross-contamination of different batches of materials.
The vertical disc mixer has high-speed shear mixing as its core advantage. The tilted bottom design of the disc and the high-speed rotating stirring paddle can generate strong centrifugal force and shear force on dry granular materials, which is suitable for mixing powder raw materials such as ammonium phosphate and urea in compound fertilizer production. It has high mixing efficiency, saves more time than horizontal equipment, and the equipment occupies a small area, which is suitable for production lines with limited space.
In terms of energy consumption and maintenance, the vertical disc mixer has a slightly higher unit energy consumption than the horizontal one due to its large mixing volume, but the mixing paddle is in close contact with the disc, so it needs to be checked more frequently for wear; the horizontal mixer has lower energy consumption, but the spiral belt wears slowly and the maintenance cycle is longer.
For processing high-humidity and high-fiber organic fertilizer raw materials, a uniform horizontal mixer is preferred; for mixing dry granular compound fertilizer raw materials, a vertical disc mixer is more efficient. Only by selecting the appropriate model according to the material characteristics can the mixing process become a key aid in improving the quality of fertilizers.
